Combined Medicare/Medicaid spending estimate displayed by the clock, not unfunded future liabilities.
Source definition ↗$1.67 trillion
Social Security spending estimate, separate from projected future benefit obligations.

Source definition ↗Private and public asset estimates are not cash available to the federal government to repay its debt.
The provider’s current and year-2000 estimates, in nominal dollars; not adjusted for inflation. Open “What this measures” for the scope of each cost.
Average tuition, fees, room and board for full-time undergraduates at degree-granting institutions. Includes more than tuition alone.
Source definition ↗The provider’s year-2000 tuition, fees, room and board comparison, in nominal dollars.
Source definition ↗The clock’s healthcare cost figure. Its published definition does not clearly identify the per-person or household basis, so this should not be read as an insurance premium.
Source definition ↗The provider’s year-2000 comparison. The same unclear cost basis applies; amounts are nominal dollars.
Source definition ↗These ratios compare monetary quantities. They are not exchange rates, market prices or fair-value targets.
M2 growth dollars per ounce of annual gold output
Year-over-year growth in U.S. M2 money supply divided by annual world gold production in ounces. This is a monetary comparison, not gold’s spot price or a price target.
Source definition ↗M2 growth dollars per ounce of annual gold output
The provider’s historical 1913 money-supply-growth / gold-production comparison, not the historical gold price.
Source definition ↗Total U.S. M2 money supply divided by the total market capitalization of all cryptocurrencies worldwide. 8:1 means $8 of M2 for each $1 of crypto market value; it is not the price of Bitcoin.
Source definition ↗The provider’s 2013 M2-to-total-crypto-market-value comparison. The mix of cryptocurrencies differs from today.

Figures are collected when the site is rebuilt, and the Economy tab also checks an hourly cached feed when you open the page. Each reading is labelled with the date it refers to. Government statistics like GDP and inflation are published monthly or quarterly, so a figure can be current and still be several weeks old — that is the data, not a delay on our side.
Cryptocurrency prices, the stock heatmap, and chain TVL refresh from cached feeds. Oil prices and volatility use dated FRED observations. Stock quotes may be delayed. Chain TVL shows when the source was retrieved; missing chain coverage is not a zero value. Sentiment is checked on page load and every fifteen minutes while the page is visible; its date reflects the underlying observation. Cryptocurrency prices refresh roughly every fifteen minutes. Stock index levels are closing levels for the date shown, not live prices during the trading day.
The U.S. and Ohio clocks animate estimates using US Debt Clock’s published rates and periodically synchronize with a cached source feed. Their synchronization time is shown above each clock. You can pause the counters; if the source is unavailable, a dated snapshot is shown. Other unavailable readings are labeled on their cards.
Numbers on a page are not a plan. If you would like to talk through how any of this bears on your retirement income, we are glad to have that conversation.
